“Stu is the best and you will not be disappointed with a Wild Things tour, hike, exploration etc…”Jess M. – USA

“Thanks for the nice photos and for the great hike. It was perfect.”Fred B. – Netherlands

“Stuart is a superior guide offering an experience based tour that gets you involved in the details of your trip. He is never less than engaging and attentive. I cannot recommend him highly enough. If there is a better guide in the Cape Town area I would love to meet them.”Colin T. – UK

“Spent a wonderful morning hiking on the Contour path above Kirstenbosch Gardens- Stuart is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic that he really brought the nature of this beautiful place alive for us. Stuart tailor made the hike to the time available for some of the group and it was very special. Don’t miss out on a hike with Stuart if you are in the Cape Town area.”Judy F. – UK

“Stuart is the perfect guide. We did the same tour on table mountain alone and then the sunset hike again with him. We learned so much about the nature, culture and animals in and around Cape Town. We had a fantastic time. Thank you!”Lisa K. – Germany

“Had a great hike on Chapmans Peak trail, beautiful scenery and great guide. Next hike already planed with WildThings Outdoor.”

Juliane L. – Germany

“AMAZING GUIDE!!!! We booked Stuart for a half day private tour. It was perfect from the beginning. He picked us up in a brand new Honda with cold water in each door! He told us about the trip and also asked us how we wanted it! First, we went to Cape Point and along the road we spotted several baboons. He stopped the car when we wanted to take photos! GOOD!! For the second stop, we went to Cape of Good Hope, and lastly, Boulders Beach to see the penguins. He planed the trip well and told us a lot of interesting history, facts and also gave us several good laughs!!! On top of all this he was affordable, polite, easy to speak with and very knowledgable!!! Quote by Stuart: “first safety, then FUN! Thank you for a lovely day!”Erik B. – Norway

“Our hike with Stuart to Lion’s Head is THE highlight of our trip to Cape Town. The mountain is steep, some climbs are terrifying if you are an average city person like I am. But having Stuart there made all the difference. It was beyond having a hiking guide, Stuart knows everything about South Africa. Like really, everything, from the smell of geranium and sage on the trail, to the history, colonization, wildlife and invasions of Cape Town. He helped me A LOT to get up to the summit and was patient, encouraging, and even brought along some trail mix. Without him, we wouldn’t have made it to the summit. Thank you for an amazing experience.”

Joyce DC – Brazil

“I had one of the best hikes of my entire life with Stuart! We hiked the Lion’s Head and Stuart showed us so many interesting things during the way up. He is really passionate about his job and nature. All guides should be like him. THANK YOU!”

Thomas L. – Germany

“We had an outstanding tour with Stuart. Not only a tour guide but also geographical and historical expert -we learned so much! Thank you.
We felt always safe and did the hike in a very good time although never hurried and enough time for taking pics or enjoying nature. We will be back!!!!!”

Judy F. – UK

“Had a great hike up the mountain. I’m a beginner birder and Stu’s knowledge of both birds and fynbos was great and insightful.

Justin P. – South Africa

“I could not recommend this highly enough. As a solo traveller in Cape Town I wanted an experience that made me feel safe with someone who really knew the area – and Stuart was the perfect person for the job! I underestimated the climb – but was damn proud at the end of completing it and Stuart could not have been more encouraging. The only way to see Table Mountain in it’s full glory in my opinion!”

Laura – UK

“Amazing sunset hike to the Lion’s Head during winter season. It was unforgettable standing at the cliff with awesome overviews on the Western Cape under your eye.
Stuart is a great guide, knowledgeable and very experienced on the way to the top of the mountain. He also prepare a head light on our way down to ensure the safety of his guests.
It’s a highly recommended tour whether you are here during summer or winter. We have enjoy every moment with him and he was also an amazing photographer with his phone.
This has to be one of our lifetime memorable sunset hike.”

Johnny H. – Singapore

“My mother and I booked this full day hike and were not disappointed. Stuart (the owner and guide)
was very sociable and knowledgeable making him a very good/fun guide. The views on this hike were
incredible along with the experience. I’d highly recommend this hike and this company!”

Ryan B. – USA

“My daughter and I booked a half-day guided tour of Camps Bay Pipe Track at Table Mountain. Our guide, Stuart, was absolutely fantastic. The second we met, I felt like I was meeting up with an old friend. He was very knowledgeable about the Mountain, its history, and the plants and animal that live there. The hike was intense, but a definite highlight of our trip to Cape Town. I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Cape Town, and with Stuart’s help, I just may make it to the top of Lion’s Head.”

Sara B. – USA

“My husband and I had three days to spend in Capetown and we chose a private tour with Wild Things Outdoor to kick off our honeymoon! Stuart customized our tour to our interests and found the best spots for coffees & lunch with a view. Our guide Stuart was extremely knowledgeable about the culture, history and wildlife in South Africa…not only that, but Stuart was very accommodating and a pleasure to be around. It felt as though we were traveling with an old friend very quickly! I highly recommend Wild Things for a unforgettable experience South Africa!”

Kristin W. – USA

“Pick what you want and Wild Things Outdoor WILL customize for you!

There were 6 of us and we spent 6 days with Stuart touring the Garden Route. We say Ostriches and Meerkats in Oudtshoorn and The Big 5 in Addo Elephant National Park; then we saw the beautiful coastline including Knysna, Cape Aghulas and Hermanus.

Stuart made out trip very special. He catered to our every what and need. Nothing was etched in stone – except the sleeping accommodations – which, by the way, were fantastic.

Possibly, just possibly our price would have been less, if one or two of the middle men had been removed. But I must say, even at the price we paid, Stuart Coffey was well worth it. He was knowledgeable, interesting, funny, safety oriented (while driving), and down right the best tour guide you could have for 6 straight days.

You would not go wrong to check into his company – Wild Things Outdoor – tell him your interests and see what he comes up with. If you are into hiking and really being outdoorsy – he is your man.

We were more the ride in a van, stay in rooms with toilets, and have people cook for you type of tourists. Stuart can do it all and very well – try him, you won’t be sorry.

PS He is also excellent at braai (barbecuing SA style).

Marilyn. – UK

“Stuart was amazing from start to finish on our hike of Lion’s head. He had excellent knowledge of the area and of all the fora, it was an insightful tour as well as visually stunning!

I planned to propose to my girlfriend at the top and having never been to South Africa or the area I thought it was best to get a guided tour for the best spot. Stuart couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating, and even kindly provided a little bottle of fizz after I popped the question (she said yes.)

I unfortunately sprained my ankle on the way up (later turned out to be a subluxing peroneal tendon which I will need surgery to fix.) However this didn’t phase Stuart and he managed to strap up my ankle and get us both back down safely.

So Stuart thank-you so much for making this event in our life so special. We both highly recommend Stuart and look forward to visiting Cape Town again and going on another tour (maybe after I get my ankle fixed.)”

Jordan dL. – UK

“My husband and I had a brilliant time with Stuart. He was fantastic on the hike, took very good care of
us and was open and knowledgeable about everything we asked. Would highly recommend.”

Georgina H. – Australi

“We had such a marvellous time exploring South Africa’s natural beauty with Wild Things Outdoor! Stuart
(the owner) answered all our questions really quickly helped us tailor the trip just for us. It was a
seamless experience! Thank you to the wonderful team!”

Anais R. – Brazil

“I went on this hike in mid August with my cousin and Stuart and this was the best hike I did in South Africa. The views are mindblowing, the hike is very steep and fun. I always felt super safe with Stuart and he gave us so much insights into the wildlife around and Capetown in general. I will be back to Capetown and I will be back on that hike. I can highly recommend it!”

Backpacker. – USA

“Stuart was an excellent guide and the tour was breathtaking. Hiking in combination with some climbing and thrills, just unique!
Beautiful view of the city and surroundings. We recommend everyone to do this tour, on my next visit this is definitely back on the list. Absolutely great!

Vivian. – Germany

“Highly recommend Wild Things Outdoor; I did two tours with them: Lions Head at Sunrise and India
Venster Table Mountain, both with excellent guides who were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and
provided fantastic experiences during my visit to Cape Town.”

Natalie. – USA

“We had an incredible experience with Stuart. He guided us on the India Venster route up Table Mountain and, while it was a *little* scary at times for people with a fear of heights (like me), he made us extremely comfortable and safe. He was extremely knowledgeable about flora, fauna, and the history of Cape Town and this was one of our top adventures while in South Africa. Book it today!”

David P. – USA

“My wife and I landed in Cape Town and literally raced from this airport to this hike! We were not disappointed. The other reviews are spot on in their description of Stuart’s knowledge of history, geography, and wildlife. We enjoyed the hike so much that we ended up taking Stuart up on an offer to do a city hike later in the week. Highly recommended! We also got some absolutely stunning sunset photos from the top of Lion’s head. If you plan to bring a DSLR or other large camera, I definitely recommend packing it carefully in a backpack as there are times on this hike when you need both of your hands. A couple of things worth mentioning – make sure to bring appropriate hiking wear (closed toe shoes, athletic wear) and some water if you can. It’s a challenging hike though definitely manageable if you’re in reasonable shape.”

Ryan D. – USA

“After the hiking experience, I am very thankful that I was assigned to Stuart (guide and owner of Wild Things Outdoor) when I booked for guided Table Mountain Hike via Viator booking site. Stuart is a very personable, accommodating, and highly professional guide and this makes the whole experience so much more treasured and memorable than hiking up on one’s own. I would definitely check up for Stuart from Wild Things Outdoor if I ever return to Cape Town! Likewise, I sincerely conveyed to Stuart that I will entertain him as a friend if he visits Singapore.

Keh C. – Singapore

“The hike with Stuart was definitely a highlight on our vacation. We did the Table Mountain Tranquility Cracks hike and were traveling about 6 hours. Stuart’s knowledge of botany, geography, etc. makes the hike extremely entertaining and extremely interesting. Will definitely book a hike with him again!”

Cerstin & Klaus. – Germany

“We had a wonderful hike to the top of the Lion‘s Head. He told us some interesting things about plants, the wildlife and some other things. On the Top we had a wonderful sunset an a fullmoon at the same time. He also had some food and a bottle of water for us. It was such a great hike. I can highly recommend it! Thanks!!”

Florian P. – Austria

“We booked the Lion’s head sunset hike with Stuart following a recommendation from a friend and reading the excellent reviews here. It was an incredible experience. Stuart was super friendly, very knowledgeable and very passionate about the outdoors and South Africa. The hike was great fun with amazing views but the benefit of having Stuart as our guide meant we learned so much about the landscape and the history of the Cape Town and South Africa. One of the highlights of our trip and 100% recommended.”

C Line. – Switzerland

“Stuart is a fantastic guide—extremely personable, knowledgeable, and prepared. He had great historical anecdotes about Cape Town and the visible landmarks, information about flora and fauna along the path, knew all the best spots for photographs. He also knew exactly where and when to be at golden hour and sunset, and when the path got dark on the way down, he was ready with head lamps.

I booked solo but was grouped with two other hikers. This was not a problem as the group was small enough that it was easy to stick together. Moreover, the hike was more fun as a group.

Table Mountain gets all the press, but the views from Lion’s Head can’t be beat. If you visit Cape Town, you should definitely hike Lion’s Head at sunset, and if you do, you should do it with Stuart!

P.S. Stuart’s wealth of knowledge extends beyond Cape Town—he had some great suggestions for the Garden Route and sites elsewhere in South Africa.”

Eugene C. – Singapore

“I also usually do not do reviews, but I cannot say enough great things about our experience with Stuart as a guide (also owner of Wild Things Outdoor)! We booked 2 hikes with him through TripAdvisor, taking a leap of faith on reviews. It was the single BEST EXPERIENCE of our trip!!!

Stuart takes the time to get to know his guests, and customized our conversation on the hikes to move toward things that we are interested in (science & nature), and I am convinced he would have easily been able to do the same for those interested in history or other areas. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough and I know our trips up the mountain wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable without his expertise!

I’m also delighted to say that the photos that he graciously took of us climbing and some at the summit of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head ended up being some of the best of the entire trip!

If I haven’t yet convinced you, don’t go any further, just book a trip with him – you won’t regret it! We will certainly be hiring him again on any return trip to South Africa, as he’s even willing to travel to other locations outside of Cape Town. Can’t wait!”

Brenessa. – USA

“Guys, I don’t generally do reviews! However, I must give credit where it is due!

I recently returned from a 2-week trip to S. Africa.

There were a lot of “first times” for me on this journey, one of which was visiting Cape Town.

Table Mountain was definitely top of my list. And, to hike to the top!

Let me just say, Stuart went ABOVE & BEYOND to make this happen for me!!

I didn’t book in advance, but instead called directly to Wild Things Outdoor on the day of. Thankfully, Stuart didn’t turn me away. In fact, he gladly reached out to one of his guides, Gregory, who was available within hours to do the hike with me.

I did have some initial issues with getting my credit card to work for transactions in the country, but Stuart was incredibly patient and supportive. Including several phone calls and extra emails until I got everything sorted out.

That’s what I call service!

Gregory, my personal guide, reached out to coordinate/communicate and picked me up (as well as dropped me off after the hike) at my Cape Town Air BnB. He was super knowledgeable of the area, Table Mountain and I truly felt like I was hiking with a long-time friend. ”

Because it actually rained the morning of the hike, there were hardly any other hikers on the trail!! Couldn’t have been more perfect to enjoy that beauty without many distraction.

As we reached the summit, after 3 hours of taking in the already spectacular views, the Sun came out and I got the most unbelievable photos!

I would wholeheartedly recommend Stuart & Wild Things! And, I will most definitely use them for any upcoming trips!

Thank you so much, Stuart & Gregory, for taking the best care of me!!!

I so look forward to seeing you again very soon!

Adonna T. – USA

“Brilliant hike even in bad weather!

Stuart is a fantastic guide who clearly loves what he does and is keen to impart knowledge and get you excited about the wonderful fynbos all around you on the hiking trail

It’s a great route up Table Mountain and we always felt safe and never rushed.

Lydia N. – UK

“Stuart was very attentive to every detail. Even before the hike, he monitored the weather and suggested going on a different day due to the clouds covering the ability to see. He is very knowledgeable about the history of South Africa and about all things nature. I enjoyed the hike. It was like climbing the stair masters for a couple of hours and every view was amazing on the way up. There are no words to describe how amazing it was. Definitely learned a lot and I feel very accomplished to have hiked to the top. Stuart is very friendly and easy to chat with. I would not have done the hike without a guide and he was the best of the best. Thanks for a fabulous hike! Highly recommend this guy!”

Vanessa Y. – USA

“We couldn’t find fault with Stuart at all especially after our travel agents failures he made sure things
were great for the 4 of us and was a very safe driver, knew lots about the wildlife and local culture and
of course could cook a great BBQ….. I would highly recommend his services to anyone.”

Iain M. – UK

“We spent the day with Wild Things. It really felt like a day trip with friends! We learnt so much about the
Cape – history, social, cultural. And we took in some great views and had a fun time exploring different
places. I really enjoyed the intimate small-group nature of this tour!”

Anoushka K. – UK

“We had two trips with Stuart and Wild things, both were excellent. very informative and detailed. at one point prior to the holiday we questioned the need for a guide but having procured toe service i would seriously recommend it to anyone. so much time lost and places half viewed if you do not!!!
Thanks for a very memorable trip.”

Noel M. – Ireland

“A very well organized hike, and a memorable experience with truly stunning views, exactly as described. Stuart is very knowledgeable in both plants, animals and geology, full of interesting facts and with an openess to learn more. I really enjoyed this hike, the sights, the discussions and as an added plus I got a demonstration of the different click sounds in the Zulu language.”

Matti J. – Sweden

“After much debate, we decided to hire a guide to go up the Platteklip Gorge to enhance our experience. I reached out to Wild Things Outdoor and booked our tour. Unfortunately Stuart, the owner, was sick that morning but he quickly jumped into action and arranged for one of his other guides to guide us up the mountain. Nadia met us at our hotel and from the start of our tour we felt comfortable, at ease, and as if we were just spending the day with a friend! She told us all about the mountain, the surrounding areas, and we had a fantastic chat the entire way up the mountain while taking in the views. She managed our expectations throughout the climb, offered encouragement, and in general was very pleasant to hike with. We reached the top and she again told us that we did a great job and we finished with a high five. My parents met us at the top (as only my husband and I did the climb), and Nadia went down just before us so that she could grab the car and meet us at the bottom to drive us back to the hotel—a gesture definitely appreciated as we were exhausted from the hike! Overall we found Wild Things Outdoor to be professional, well priced, and honestly passionate people about what they do. We’re happy we found them to hike with and would highly recommend them!”

Nicole D. – US

“I did two hikes with Stuart in Sept 2017 and I can’t recommend his company enough! I did the India Venster route up Table Mountain, which is incredible if you have a good level of fitness and no fear of heights! The route takes you straight up the front of the mountain, and involves climbing in parts over very steep drops. We saw a few other people attempting the climb and some that turned around to head back down, as without an experienced guide it can be relatively dangerous. For the whole hike I felt completely safe with Stuart and he had lots of interesting knowledge about Table Mountain and Cape Town which he shared with us as we were climbing. You end up climbing directly underneath the Cable Car with this route which gives incredible views and the feeling of being on top of the world!

I also did the Lion’s Head sunset hike which is magical! This gives you a full view of Cape Town and Table Mountain, which is breathtaking with the backdrop of the sun setting over the mountain. This hike is much more manageable and is mostly on wide paths that aren’t too steep, with a few ladders to climb here and there. We saw people running and walking with children and dogs, so if you’re looking for something more easygoing (and shorter) this is a great option.”

The best thing about touring with Stuart are his photography skills. The photos on this page don’t do his work justice – you should check out his instagram (wildthingsadventures) to see what kind of photos you can get from one of his trips. He knows exactly which view points look great and the perfect angles and lighting to make the pics incredible! I spent 4 weeks in Uganda and South Africa, and the photos I got from my hikes with Stuart are by far the best of my trip!

Stuart goes over and above with every aspect of his service, and you can tell he really loves sharing his passion for his City and the outdoors with his guests. I’ve stayed in touch with Stuart since leaving as I needed to make some arrangements with my insurance, and he’s been very helpful in sorting these things out, which he was in no way obliged to do!

I have recommended Stuart to my sister who is travelling to South Africa next year, and will continue to recommend him to any other friends and family that travel there.
I hope to return some time and explore even more of the region with Wild Things Outdoor!

Tonia T. – UK

“My wife and I were looking for something to do in Cape Town where we could take in some local culture. We had a great time walking around the city with Stuart and learning all about the history and seeing a few different museums. I even got a chance to fire a cannon. Yes, a cannon! I would highly recommend taking this tour if you want a different and local view of downtown Cape Town. It was also the perfect amount of tome. Not too short, not too long.”

Kris L. – Canada

“A good friend of ours suggested we reach out to Stuart Coffey in Cape Town if we were looking for a guide for our trip to South Africa before we headed to Botswana. We ended up booking Stuart for a trip to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a vineyard trip and a trip to Boulder’s Beach and the Cape of Good Hope. Stuart was very professional and so knowledgeable. Each morning he would be waiting for us in our hotel lobby with a big smile on his face and a fully planned out day. What a luxury to leave all the planning to someone else. His tour was fabulous, very interesting, informative and never boring. We learned so much and had a great time. Stuart is a wonderful driver and he felt more like a friend than a tour guide. He knows so many little gems which we would have never found on our own. We found his prices to be very fair and reasonable. I think any activity with Stuart will be a big success and I would highly recommend him.”

Jane B. – USA

“Stuart is very friendly and informative throughout our hike up Lion’s head. My husband and I enjoyed our time with him. We’d look for him again the next time we visit Cape Town/ SA. His company organises activities/ tours of all sorts so do give him a shout if you’re looking for a friendly and well-experienced guide!

Inggrid G. – Singapore

“Stuart is the perfect guide. We did the same tour on table mountain alone and then the sunset hike again with him. We learned so much about the nature, culture and animals in and around Cape Town. We had a fantastic time. Thank you!”
